Monsoon

I gave the best of me,
all I ever had,
but you came back to me
with nothing in your hand.

You gave it all away
for a simple smile
that is now blown away
as nothing is worthwhile.

Nothing stays the same
and no one is to blame
when life is running fast
and you are still my past.

You could have been the one,
could have been my moon
shining in the night
over the monsoon.

I gave the best of me,
asked nothing in return
but you came back to me
letting my heart burn.

You’re still my past, a memory
like broken strings in a symphony
where music hurts my lost echo
so I’ll just learn to let you go.
